My name is David King and I am a UK-based contemporary artist.

My current work shown on this website was inspired by the history of railways and of a town that played a key role in their development.

That town is Shildon which is situated in the North of England.

We (my wife and I plus 3 dogs) moved to Shildon 3 years ago (and love it here).

Soon after moving here I became aware of the important role  the town and it's people played in the development of railways.

Almost 200 years ago the first ever passenger train made its first journey from Shildon to Darlington.

For most of the time since then the town had a huge enineering workshop building and maintaining trains and carriages throughout the world.

In commemoration of this history the town has many features. like the original rail wagons, lines and signals  now displayed on road roundabouts.

So I decided to create paintings of some of these features.

I have so far produced about 20 such paintings and displayed them on line (eg Instagram etc) and in exhibitions.

They have been well received and I was delighted that  one was included in a piano concert in New York by the famous composer/pianist, Margin Alexander.

I hope you enjoy looking at my painitings and I would welcome your comments
